Brands are made up of names, tag lines, colors, sounds, scents, designs, symbols or other identifying features such as a logo. A logo needs to function on the smallest of applications and the largest. It needs to appeal to your customers, be eye catching and unique. A logo is the single most important investment you can make in your business, you want to have someone with experience and talent do this for you. Your brand is your personality with your logo being the single most recognized portion. Good, clean, professional design and marketing can help your brand stand out from the crowd. Proper branding can increase your sales and help grow your business. If you invest in your company, others will too.

I think the number one mistake that people make is not putting enough time / care / attention / funds into design.
