Setting up a website

I get asked all the time, “how do I set up a website?” So I’ve decided to write a post about it. Please share it with anyone that needs help.

First you need to get a domain name. Something that speaks to you and your branding. I recommend searching for names and buying them at NameCheap.com. If you don’t have any idea about a name for your business, work with a branding expert, like myself or someone you trust.

After you buy your domain name you’ll need someone to host your website so that it will be live to the world. I recommend Blue Host. This is who I use. It’s pretty cheap and good.

After you have your host you’ll want to set up an email account that uses your domain name. Ex. who@yourdomain.com If you love Gmail, you can always forward your domain name email to your Gmail account for free with Blue Host or configure Gmail to send and receive for a small fee.

As for your website, I recommend using WordPress. There are so many themes and plug ins to make your website exactly as you want it to be. You’ll want to pick something and get it installed with your host. You may want to hire someone to do this for you. It can be a bit complicated to get the website up and running.

Lastly, customize your site with all your unique brand elements. If you don’t have a logo yet, no problem, just get something set up so you can sell, sell, sell. When you have some income, hire a designer to give it that polished, professional look. Feel free to shoot me an email when you are ready to create!
