McMinnville Oregon: Sip, Sleep and Savor

Looking for wine country chic when visiting McMinnville Oregon?

Look no further!

Some of you might not have heard of McMinnville Oregon and some of you might not know how cool it is to spend the night or the weekend there. I was recently able to play tourist and not just pass through for an hour or two on my way to or from Corvallis.

To stay:

I was pleasantly surprised to learn of the Atticus hotel. It just opened in 2018 and is already causing a stir. It’s an amazing boutique hotel that caters to those that appreciate hyper-local. What does that mean besides being hip and sexy looking from the outside in? The whole hotel is outfitted in PNW made goods from the art to the chairs and the mattresses. That not only looks good but feels good to experience. I felt like every detail of this hotel was crafted for comfort and visual appeal.

Make sure to ask about the secret room.

To do:

I’ve lived in Oregon almost my whole life but I’ve never been to the Evergreen Aviation and Space Museum, even though when you type in McMinville Oregon that’s the most well known sight! What a treat it is to see the Spruce Goose. Everyone talks about it but seeing it in person is really amazing. The docents that guide you through the Goose are so wonderful and knowledgable. It’s fun to hear the stories they have to share of the famous plane but also their own tales. If you are ever in the area and like planes I highly suggest a visit. If you have little ones, they also have a water park. I almost wanted to go just so I could take the slide that comes out from the airplane on the roof!

To eat:

Nick’s is THE recommended place in McMinnville Oregon and it has been for many years. I’ve actually never been because I don’t eat many carbs but I keep hearing I’m missing out. I did miss out again as I opted for more veggie options that are easier on my stomach.

Valley Commissary in the Granary District. This is such a cute area to eat, drink and shop plus it’s walking distance from the Atticus.

Pura Vida Cocina is a must if you love tacos like I do. It’s Latin American cuisine that’s also within walking distance of the hotel.

To drink:

There are so many wineries that have tasting rooms in the city and just outside McMinnville Oregon. You could spend days just touring the wineries and their beautiful vineyards.

Bless Your Heart that adjoins the Atticus hotel has a nice happy hour. If you don’t make it for happy hour, that’s ok, the drinks are still amazing including the adult milk shake. It’s like a grown up fast food place that you actually want to eat and drink at. If you’re in Portland the owners also run Toro Bravo which I highly recommend.

Another happy hour to check out with one of the best views in the whole area is McMenamins rooftop bar. They aren’t known for their service but you can’t beat drinks on the roof especially at sunset. Depending on the time of year sunset and happy hour might be at completely different times but still awesome for either one or both!
