Have you ever tried something that you thought was weird but you ended up loving it? That was me with avocado shakes.

I was in Cambodia and my friend kept talking about avocado shakes. I thought it seemed really odd. I’m used to avocado being a savory food or a food that is not sweet. So, what the heck, I’ll try it. It has a good recommendation and it’s something new. Something that seems odd to me, so I must do it. I feel in love! These things are amazing. I liked them so much I had to learn how to make them when I came back home.

Avocado Shake

The recipe I found online was very similar to the ones in SE Asia. They call for sweetened condensed milk, ice, water and avocado. I love almost all of those ingredients. I thought there must be a way to make it without all the sugar from the sweetened condensed milk so I tried homemade coconut milk and honey. Sure enough, it works! I’m sure you can even try other substitutes but it seems to work well for me and my tastes.

I highly encourage you to push your boundaries and try things that seem weird or things that scare you. It’s the only way you grow and learn. Otherwise it’s the same old thing day in and day out. I don’t know about you but thats boring. Although I may be resistant to change at first, I usually push myself to do it, just because. I like to check things out and see for myself. If it’s good, I’ve got something that sticks with me. If it’s bad, at least I know I don’t have to do it again.

Avocado shake by Roux:

One small avocado

5 ice cubes

1 cup of water

1/2 cup of coconut milk

1 tablespoon of honey

Blend. If it’s too thick add more water. I usually don’t measure, so this is approximate.
